about

I wrote the words after my mum said she'd been singing about our cat with my son. I asked what they'd sung and she couldn't remember (they'd just been making stuff up).

Pretty straight forward description/actions song. It didn't work until I realised any good track about a cat would have to be a bit `jazz'. Nina is a Prussian Blue by the way. She'd been abandoned and we took her in when the lady who'd found her decided she couldn't care after a new cat herself.

I enjoyed playing mouth trumpet on the song no end (a spontaneous, silly, studio thing). Not long after recording this I discovered that that noise also calms my baby girl, Rosie, down better than almost anything. Result!

lyrics

Nina

{refrain}
I've got a cat (he's got a cat)
Named Nina (Nina)

And Nina's got a tail for balancing.
Nina's got a tail.

{refrain}

Nina's got four legs for walking.
And Nina's got a tail.

{refrain}

Nina's got two ears for listening.
And four legs, and Nina's got a tail.

{refrain}

Nina's got two eyes for looking.
And two ears, and four legs and Nina's got a tail.

{refrain}

Nina's got a nose for sniffing.
Two eyes, two ears, four legs and Nina's got a tail.

{refrain}

Nina's got whiskers for measuring.
One Nose, two eyes, two ears, four legs and Nina's got a tail.

Nina's got a tail.
